Assemble a readable video description with links and chapters

Join description sections with predictable spacing and validate a simple chapter list before copying.

ERITHRA editorial3 min read

When a description grows to include context, resources, and chapter times, the main editing problem is often organization. The YouTube Description Formatter combines three sections in a fixed order: main description, links, and optional chapters. It creates plain text you can review before pasting into your publishing interface.

Fill the sections deliberately

Enter the opening explanation in Main description. Put each resource on its own line in Links (one per line). Add Chapters (optional) only when you have checked the times against the edited video. Choose Generate result after completing the required description and links fields.

The formatter removes whitespace from the start and end of each section, omits an empty optional chapter section, and joins the remaining sections with one blank line. It preserves line breaks inside the main description and links. It does not inspect whether the links resolve, rename them, or convert them into HTML.

See the resulting layout

For example, enter A quick tour of the editing timeline. as the main description, Project notes: https://example.com/notes as the links, and these chapter lines:

00:00 Introduction
01:10 Timeline setup
03:20 Export review

The result contains the opening sentence, a blank line, the project-notes line, another blank line, and the three chapter lines. The chapter parser keeps the supplied time text and title text after validating their structure. A line such as 01:75 Timeline setup is rejected because the seconds component exceeds 59. Repeating or decreasing times is also rejected.

Use the Timestamp Generator for a focused chapter-only pass, especially if you are still changing the edit. Regenerate the description after the final timings settle so you do not copy an older list.

Check length, privacy, and meaning

The implementation rejects generated descriptions longer than 5,000 JavaScript string units. Its displayed character metric counts Unicode code points, so emoji-heavy text may hit the length guard before that displayed count reaches 5,000. Leave room for revisions instead of relying on the exact edge.

This is a formatter, not a fact checker or a platform chapter-eligibility checker. It does not confirm that a chapter begins at the described moment or that the platform will display chapters. Read the complete output and check each destination link. The Video Link Cleaner is useful for removing unnecessary parameters from supported video links. Formatting runs in your browser; avoid including private access tokens in descriptions you plan to publish publicly.
