The same video identifier can appear in several link formats. The YouTube Video ID Extractor isolates that value so you can use it in a supported embed or thumbnail workflow. It parses the text locally; it does not call YouTube to verify that a video exists.
Supply a full link or a bare identifier
Paste the source into YouTube video URL or ID and choose Generate result. A bare identifier must contain exactly eleven letters, digits, underscores, or hyphens. Full URLs must use HTTP or HTTPS and a supported YouTube host. Include the scheme: youtube.com/watch?... without https:// is not a complete URL for this parser.
The accepted host forms include youtube.com, m.youtube.com, music.youtube.com, youtube-nocookie.com, and youtu.be, with the implemented handling of a leading www.. The tool reads a v query parameter on the supported full-site hosts, or a video identifier in /shorts/, /embed/, and /live/ paths. It reads the first path segment after the host on youtu.be.
Compare two equivalent inputs
For example, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXc&t=90s produces dQw4w9WgXc. So does https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXc?t=90s. The time parameter belongs to the link’s playback context and is not part of the identifier.
This also explains why copying an entire URL into a field that expects only an ID can fail elsewhere. An ID is a fixed-length value; it contains neither a slash nor ?v=. Use Copy result to transfer precisely the extracted text, or download it as a text result when documenting an integration.
Recognize what extraction cannot prove
A channel URL, a search page, and a playlist-only URL do not identify a supported video and will fail. A lookalike hostname is not accepted just because it contains the word “youtube.” If a link has an unusual format, open the trusted video page yourself and obtain its normal share link instead of trying to force unrelated text through the parser.
Passing validation proves only that the input matches these parsing rules. It does not establish public visibility, ownership, embedding permission, title accuracy, or continuing availability. No video is fetched and no account connection is made during extraction.
If you want a readable sharing URL after extracting the ID, use the Video Link Cleaner. For an HTML player beginning at a particular second, use the Embed Code Generator and check the final page’s behavior separately.
