Make a centered social crop without losing the subject

Calculate how a landscape source becomes a square PNG, review the cropped edges, and distinguish presets from platform guarantees.

Choose the composition before the export

The Social Media Image Resizer fills a chosen canvas with a centered crop. It scales the image proportionally until the whole target area is covered, then discards the parts extending beyond the edges. This avoids stretching but can remove important content.

Upload a JPEG, PNG, or WebP and select Crop preset. The available canvases are 1080 × 1080 square, 1080 × 1350 portrait, 1080 × 1920 story or short, 1280 × 720 video thumbnail, and 1200 × 630 landscape share. These are explicit output dimensions, not a promise that every social platform currently recommends or displays them identically.

Predict a landscape-to-square crop

Upload a 1600 × 900 image with its subject in the center and choose Square · 1080 × 1080. Generate the result. The expected output is a 1080 × 1080 PNG named erithra-social-image-resizer.png.

To cover the square, the source scales by 1.2, becoming 1920 × 1080 before clipping. That removes 420 output pixels from each horizontal side, corresponding to 350 pixels from each side of the original source. The central 900 × 900 source region supplies the final square.

Inspect the preview for faces, logos, text, and gestures near those edges. If the important subject is off-center, this tool has no focal-point positioning control. Prepare a deliberate crop with Image Cropper before applying the target preset.

Inspect detail after resizing

Upscaling a small image creates more pixels without restoring missing detail. A sharply framed result can still appear soft if the source is too small. View the export at its intended display size rather than relying only on a reduced preview.

The output format is PNG even when the source was JPEG or WebP. That can change file size substantially and does not guarantee a smaller upload. For a video listing, YouTube Thumbnail Preview can help inspect a thumbnail and title together after the composition is settled.

Review the destination separately

Check the platform’s actual upload preview before posting. Interface overlays, feed crops, and profile-grid presentations can hide different parts of the same image. Keep essential text away from vulnerable edges and provide a suitable caption or alternative text where the platform supports it.

Files are limited to 20 MB and 40 megapixels. Processing and PNG export take place in the browser without an ERITHRA image upload. The tool creates a downloadable image; it does not connect to an account or publish a post.
