Sample the source image rather than its screenshot
The Color Picker from Image reads a pixel from an image decoded in your browser. Choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP file, enter Pixel X and Pixel Y, and select Sample color. Once the preview is visible, clicking another position updates the result.
Coordinates begin at zero in the top-left corner. For an image 800 pixels wide, valid horizontal positions run from 0 through 799. The coordinate fields provide an alternative to pointing with a mouse and allow you to revisit the same source pixel precisely.
Check a known solid swatch
Create or choose an opaque PNG filled entirely with #336699. Upload it, set X and Y to 0, and sample. The expected output includes:
HEX: #336699
RGBA: rgba(51, 102, 153, 1.000)
Pixel: 0, 0
Click another pixel in that solid area and the color should remain the same. In a photograph, neighboring pixels usually differ, so sample more than one position before treating a result as a useful design color.
A JPEG edge may include compression variation rather than one perfectly flat brand color. If you have an original logo specification or a lossless swatch, use it as the reference instead of sampling a compressed screenshot and expecting the original numerical value to reappear.
Read alpha alongside HEX
The HEX line expresses the three RGB channels. The RGBA line also reports alpha, with 1.000 meaning opaque and 0.000 meaning fully transparent. A partially transparent pixel looks different when composited over different backgrounds. Copying only its six-digit HEX value drops that transparency information.
A fully transparent pixel’s RGB channels should not be interpreted as the visible background color. Inspect an opaque interior area when you want the image’s visible fill. Use HEX to RGB if you need an equivalent color notation after choosing a sample.
Check suitability after sampling
A sampled color is not automatically appropriate for text. Test the intended foreground and background pair separately; WCAG’s contrast criterion uses 4.5:1 for ordinary text and 3:1 for qualifying large text, with specified exceptions. This picker does not calculate those ratios.
Images are limited to 20 MB and 40 megapixels, with supported output dimensions bounded by the canvas implementation. Processing stays in the browser. For a coordinated set based on your selected color, continue with Color Palette Generator and assess each proposed use in context.
