Check a YouTube title's character count and opening words

Compare the tool's 100-character check with its approximate 60-position listing preview.

A title has two separate jobs: fit the publishing field and explain the video when only its opening is visible. The YouTube Title Length Checker reports the number of characters, subtracts that number from 100, and shows a shortened listing-style preview. These checks make editing easier, but the preview is not a measurement of a real device’s available width.

Enter the exact title

Paste the proposed wording into Video title and choose Generate result. Include punctuation and any spaces you intend to keep. The tool counts the submitted value without trimming its ends, so an accidental trailing space affects the result. Use the copy action after reviewing the text if you want to transfer the same version into your publishing workflow.

The displayed count uses JavaScript’s iteration over Unicode code points. This is more useful than counting storage units, but a symbol built from several code points can still contribute more than one character. Treat joined emoji, flags, and combining accents carefully when you are close to the threshold.

Work through a short example

Enter Edit better videos. “Edit” contributes four characters, “better” six, and “videos” six. The two spaces add two more, producing 18 characters and 82 remaining to 100. Because this example is short, the preview displays the complete wording.

Next, add a specific detail such as the editing task or intended audience and generate another result. Compare whether the extra information helps someone understand the promise. A count alone cannot tell you whether a title is accurate or clear. The Title Idea Generator can supply alternative structures when you need a different opening.

Interpret the shortened preview

The implementation shortens titles beyond 60 JavaScript string positions and adds an ellipsis. That cutoff is a rough display aid; it does not calculate pixel width or reproduce YouTube’s current interface. The preview also uses a different string operation from the Unicode character counter, so complex emoji can behave differently around its cutoff.

A negative remaining count means the title exceeds this tool’s 100-character check. A positive count does not guarantee that every word will be visible in a listing. Put essential context early and review the actual publishing interface before saving.

Your title is processed in the browser without an account connection. Nothing is published by generating a result. For a second editorial pass, use the Thumbnail Preview Tool to see whether the image and title complement each other instead of repeating the same vague phrase.
