Image to Text: a practical guide

Copy text from photos and screenshots with local OCR.

ERITHRA editorial2 min read

Use Image to Text when you need to copy text from photos and screenshots with local OCR. This guide follows a concrete workflow: copy a printed receipt into notes. Keep your source file so you can compare the result and repeat the conversion with different settings.

Work through the example

  1. Choose up to five clear English-language photos or screenshots.
  2. Extract text and let the English OCR model load in your browser.
  3. Correct totals, dates and spelling before copying the text.

Understand the output

English OCR, up to 5 images, 5 MB and 5 megapixels each. Proofread the result; handwriting is unreliable.

OCR recognizes shapes rather than understanding the document. Blur, skew, glare and low contrast can change a digit or miss a line. Use a clear, upright source and verify names, account numbers and amounts manually.

Save and share carefully

The tool link is shareable; your uploaded document is not included in that link. Download the finished file before closing the tab. Reset clears the workspace. You can save the tool to Favorites to return to the same workflow later.
