A percentage discount is easiest to check when the original price and the saving are shown separately. The Discount Calculator applies one percentage reduction to one original price. It reports the remaining sale price and the amount saved, using the same currency or unit as your input.
Enter the reference price and reduction
Fill Original price with a nonnegative amount and Discount (%) with a value from 0 through 100, then choose Calculate. Enter the percentage as a number such as 25, rather than the decimal 0.25, when you mean a twenty-five percent reduction.
The formula for savings is price × discount / 100. The sale price is price × (1 − discount / 100). These two amounts sum to the original price before display rounding. There is no tax, shipping, fee, or coupon-eligibility calculation in this operation.
Work through one reduction
For an original price of 1,200 and discount of 25%, savings are 1200 × 0.25 = 300. The sale price is 1200 × 0.75 = 900. The tool displays 900.00 as the sale price and 300.00 as savings.
At a zero discount, the sale price equals the original price and savings are zero. At 100%, the mathematical sale price is zero. Those endpoints describe this formula; they do not establish whether a merchant accepts a particular promotion or whether extra charges remain payable.
Treat consecutive discounts as separate steps
If a second 10% reduction applies after the 25% example, its base is the new price of 900. Enter 900 as the original price and 10 as the discount. The second saving is 90, leaving 810.00. Total savings from the initial 1,200 are 390, or 32.5%, rather than the 35% obtained by adding the discount percentages.
This calculator has one discount field, so it does not automatically track a chain of reductions. Record the first result before replacing the input, and confirm the actual order and conditions of any offer independently. Fixed-amount vouchers require a different arithmetic step.
Keep the comparison complete
Results are rounded to two decimals and calculated locally in your browser. The tool does not verify the original price, assess an offer’s value, or compare merchants. Use a consistent reference amount when comparing alternatives.
The Percentage Calculator can calculate the effective total reduction from a starting and ending price. If tax is involved, the GST Calculator can apply a chosen rate separately, once you have established the correct taxable base and calculation order for the document you are checking.
